RE:            September 2007 monthly Water Quality Report

The Sabine River Authority of Texas has produced a monthly water quality report since the early 1990’s.  This report is the first to follow a new format which will provide data that is collected from each month’s sampling and reported on a monthly basis.  The new format will be timelier for our water customers and for recreational interests in the basin who are interested in the most current conditions.  Data from laboratory analyses will be reported through our annual Basin Highlights Report and five-year Summary Reports and are available online at the TCEQ web site. 

 

Sabine Basin Tidal (Including Tributaries)

 

Weather - Weather conditions (previous seven days) in the Tidal Basin were warm with highs from the mid 70s to the mid 90s.  Low temperatures ranged from the low 60s to the low 70s.  The Tidal stations received 5.16 inches of rainfall in the seven days prior to the sample event.

Tidal Conditions - Surface salinities were only found at Black Bayou station BB1.  The largest salinity value, 5.91 ppt, was found at Sabine River station SRT1 at 9.9 meters. 

  

Lower Sabine Basin (Toledo Bend Reservoir and Below)

 

Weather - Weather conditions (previous seven days) in the Lower Basin were warm with highs from the mid 70s to the mid 90s.  Low temperatures ranged from the low 60s to the low 70s.   Toledo Bend received 1.05 inches of rainfall during the week prior and during the sampling week. 

Lake Level - The level of Toledo Bend Reservoir was recorded at 169.62 feet with 204 cfs discharge at the time of sampling.  Toledo Bend has a conservation pool level of 172ft msl.  Reservoir profiles indicated thermal stratification of the water column. 

 

Upper Sabine Basin (Lake Tawakoni, Lake Fork Reservoir, and the river above Toledo Bend)

 

Weather - Weather conditions (previous seven days) in the upper Sabine River Basin was warm, with daytime highs in the upper 70s to low 90s at Lake Tawakoni and at Lake Fork.  Lows ranged from the low 60s to low 70s at Lake Tawakoni and at Lake Fork.  Lake Tawakoni received no rain and Lake Fork received 0.05 inches of rain the week preceding the sample run.

Lake Level - The conservation pool level of Lake Tawakoni is 437.5 ft msl, while the conservation pool level of Lake Fork is 403 ft msl.  The levels of Lake Tawakoni and Lake Fork were recorded at 436.87 ft msl and 403.2 ft msl, respectively.  Reservoir profiles indicated thermal stratification of the water column.
