PRESS RELEASE Orange County TMDL Implementation Planning Meeting Set for Area Stakeholders

(Orange, TX) The Orange County Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Project will hold its first implementation planning meeting on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sabine River Authority Environmental Services Division office located at 1895 Owens Illinois Road. This meeting is open to the public.

Public Meeting

Citizens of the Orange County area are being asked for their input on the draft Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) report for Adams Bayou and Cow Bayou. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is holding a public meeting to receive comments on the draft TMDL Report on Thursday, March 22, 2007. The meeting will be held at 7 PM at the City of Orange Recreation Department, 4103 Meeks Drive, Orange.

Project Overview

The purpose of this project is to support the assessment of the presence and causes of depressed dissolved oxygen concentrations, elevated fecal coliform densities, and/or low pH in the following nine Texas water bodies on the 2000 Federal Clean Water Act §303(d) List in an effort to comply with Texas law:

Segment 0508 Adams Bayou Tidal
From the confluence with the Sabine River in Orange County to a point 1.1 km (0.7 miles) upstream of IH 10 in Orange County;
Segment 0508A Adams Bayou Above Tidal (unclassified water body)
From a point 1.1 km (0.7 miles) upstream of IH 10 in Orange County to the upstream perennial portion of the stream northwest of Orange in Orange County;
Segment 0508B Gum Gully (unclassified water body)
From the confluence of Adams Bayou to the upstream perennial portion of the stream northwest of Orange in Orange County;
Segment 0508C Hudson Gully (unclassified water body)
From the confluence with Adams Bayou to the headwaters near US 890 in Pinehurst in Orange County;
Segment 0511 Cow Bayou
From the confluence with the Sabine River in Orange County to a point 4.8 km (3.0 miles) upstream of IH 10 in Orange County;
Segment 0511A Cow Bayou Above Tidal (unclassified water body)
From a point 4.8 km (3 miles) upstream of IH 10 in Orange County to the upstream perennial portion of the stream northeast of Vidor in Orange County;
Segment 0511B Coon Bayou (unclassified water body)
From the confluence with Cow Bayou up to the extent of tidal limit in Orange County;
Segment 0511C Cole Creek (unclassified water body)
From the confluence of Cow Bayou west of Orange in Orange County to the upstream perennial portion of the stream south of Mauriceville in Orange County;
Segment 0511E Terry Gully (unclassified water body)
From the confluence with Cow Bayou in Orange County to the headwaters northeast of Vidor in Orange County.

This project is undertaken by the Sabine River Authority of Texas (SRA) under contract with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
