New Slate of Officers for

Sabine River Authority - Texas

 (Orange, TX)  A new slate of officers was elected by the Board of Directors at the annual meeting of the Sabine River Authority of Texas (SRA) held recently in Marshall.  Sammy Dance of Center was elected as Board President for 2006.  Other elected officers include Vice President Connie Ware of Marshall, Secretary/Treasurer J. D. Jacobs of Rockwall and Secretary Pro-Tem Connie Wade of Longview.  The officer positions take effect January 1, 2006.  Other members of the SRA Board include Past President Claudia Abney of Marshall, Earl Williams of Orange, Don Covington of Orange, Link Linkenauger of Greenville and Stan Mathews of Pinehurst.

 

President Dance is the owner and manager of Dance Furniture and Appliance, Inc. in Center, Texas.  A graduate of Stephen F. Austin with a business degree, he has been retailing furniture, appliances, electronics and home accessories since 1967.  He is one of the founders of Shelby Savings Bank where he serves as a director and loan committee member.  Mr. Dance is Past President of Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and a recipient of the “Outstanding Young Man of the Year” award.  He also enjoys flying airplanes and sailplanes as well as golfing and numerous water sports.  Mr. Dance and his wife, Barbara, have three sons and one grandchild.  They are active members of the First United Methodist Church in Center.

The Sabine River Authority of Texas is governed by a nine-member Board of Directors appointed by the Governor of Texas.  The Board is responsible for overseeing the development of water resources in the Sabine River Basin.  Members of the Board are required to reside within a county situated wholly or partially within the watershed of the Sabine

River.  They are leaders in their communities dedicated to serve as active participants in the water issues being addressed by the Sabine River Authority of Texas.  Created by the Legislature in 1949, the Sabine River Authority is an official agency of the State of Texas.  The Authority was created as a conservation and reclamation district with responsibilities to control, store, preserve, and distribute the waters of the Sabine River and its tributary streams for useful purposes.
